mi Ears Audiology in Knaphill, Woking are specialists in Paediatric Hearing Assessments and our two Specialist Audiologists have extensive training and experience in the NHS.

We offer two Children's Hearing Test Assessments - 

• Children's Hearing Tests for ages 7 months to 3 years of age with two Specialist Paediatric Audiologists
• Children's Hearing Tests for ages 3 years to 16 years of age with a Specialist Paediatric Audiologist

All hearing tests are conducted in our dedicated child friendly Paediatric Audiology sound proofed room. We allocate 60 minutes for the appointment which includes:

• Comprehensive medical history.
• Examination of your child's ears.
• Various hearing tests - see below.
• Full explanation of results and recommendations.
• Written report to parents, GP and professionals.

Different objective and behavioural tests can be used according to your child’s age and ability:

• Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA) is a behavioural assessment usually suitable for children between developmental age of 6-7 months to 30 months. The child will be seated on their own or on the parent / guardian’s lap and different sounds will be presented through speakers, headphones or a bone conductor (which vibrates on the bone behind the ear). The child is taught by the audiologist to turn every time they hear a sound and to look for a visual reward such as a cartoon on a screen or flashing light. We aim to measure the lowest intensity level at which reliable and repeatable responses are obtained.

• Pure tone Audiometry (Hearing Test): children from 5 years old using headphones and pressing a button when they hear a sound. This test measure the quietest sound that is audible for a range of frequencies.

• Play Audiometry: children from 2 -5 years old using headphones or a soundfield handheld audiometer. Performing a task such as putting a man in a boat when they hear a sound.

• Tympanometry: tests the middle ear and ear drum status and can detect conditions such as glue ear or a perforated eardrum. It can also check if grommets are working.

• Speech discrimination tests : Using the Parrot automated speech tests according to age: McCormick toy test, Manchester Picture Word test, Manchester Junior Word list, AB Word list. 

• Otoacoustic Emissions: cochlear function testing used on the Newborn Hearing Screen Programme.
