Children's Auditory Processing Disorder Assessment

mi Ears Audiology in Knaphill, Woking are specialists in Paediatric APD Assessment and our two Specialist Audiologists have extensive training and experience in the NHS. 

Children's Auditory Processing Disorder Assessments are available for children aged 7 years and older, with appointments conducted by our two specialist Audiologists. 

Important: Before a Paediatric APD Assessment can be performed, a recent Children's Hearing Test must be completed. We can arrange a Hearing Assessment with us, or you may provide us with copies of any recent tests. Please contact us to discuss any queries you may have. 

All APD Assessments take place in our dedicated child-friendly, soundproofed room designed for Paediatric Audiology. We allocate 2 hours for the appointment, which includes: 

- Comprehensive medical history. 

- Examination of your child's ears. 

- Various Auditory Processing tests (listed below). 

- Full explanation of results and recommendations. 

- Written report provided to parents, GP, and professionals. 

Some of the Auditory Processing APD tests we may perform during the assessment include: 

- The Listening in Spatialized Noise – Sentences Test (LiSN-S), which assesses speech understanding in noise (competing speech)

- The Listening in Spatialized Noise – Universal Test (LiSN-U), which evaluates speech understanding using nonsense syllables in noisy environments

- The Dichotic Digits difference Test (DDdT), where different digit names (one to ten, excluding seven) are presented to each ear simultaneously through headphones

- DigiSpan, a test of short-term and working memory, administered via computer based on the digit-span test

- AudiCloze, which measures the ability to infer the identity of words obscured by noise, reverberation, or listening difficulties

- Testing of Listening Difficulty – Universal Test (ToLD-U), which assesses the ability to recognize and understand sentences in noise and reverberation

We provide Children's Hearing Tests for families in Woking, Guildford, Hampshire, Berkshire, and Surrey areas.
